CNA Lifestyle – How your child’s eczema can lead to asthma and food allergies later in life

Atopic dermatitis, commonly known as eczema, can be an early indicator of future allergic conditions in children, such as asthma and food allergies, due to a process known as the atopic march.

This progression begins with dry skin in infancy, leading to eczema and potentially developing into food allergies, allergic rhinitis, and asthma as the child grows. The impaired skin barrier in eczema facilitates allergen penetration, triggering immune responses.

Prevention strategies include early management of eczema with moisturizers, avoiding irritants, and consulting a dermatologist for appropriate care.
